Who can take the exam

Foreign nationals and Polish citizens permanently residing abroad may take the examination, regardless of whether, where, how long or how they have prepared.

  • The certificate examination in Polish as a foreign language in a group adapted to the needs of adults may be taken by persons who on the day of the examination have completed 18 years.
  • The certificate examination in Polish as a foreign language in a group adapted to the needs of children and adolescents may be taken by persons of the following age 14 - 17 years.

Exam at B1 adapted to the needs of children and young people checks proficiency in the use of Polish language in relation to the universal skills indicators adopted for B1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment (Warsaw 2003).

Exam aimed at younger people candidates differs from the adult exam in the subject matter of the texts and type of tasks and instructions, which have been adapted to the needs and developmental capabilities of school-age pupils. The number of tasks making up some of the modules of the examination and the time allowed for solving them are also different. In addition, for the adult exam, proficiency in reading comprehension and grammatical correctness is checked within two separate modules. In contrast, A test tailored to the needs of children and adolescents tests these competences within one, integrated module.

To pass the examination in a tailor-made group children and young people is obtaining at least 50% points in the written part and 50% points in the oral part exam. By contrast, a condition for passing the examination for persons adults is to obtain at least 50% points from each module of the written part of the exam and oral examination (cf. Regulation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education on examinations in Polish as a foreign language of 26 February 2016).

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment (Warsaw 2003) as well as those contained in the „Standards of requirements for specific levels of language proficiency in Polish as a foreign language” (appendix 1. to the Regulations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education on examinations in Polish as a foreign language of 26 February 2016).

Exam aimed at younger people candidates differs from the adult exam in the subject matter of the texts, as well as type of tasks and instructions, which have been adapted to the needs and abilities of school-age pupils.

To pass the examination at B2 in the group tailored to your needs children and young people is obtaining at least 50% points from the whole written part and 50% points from the oral part examination (cf. Regulation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education on examinations in Polish as a foreign language dated 26 February 2016, page 7.).
