On 26 May 2026, the Act of 30 April 2026 amending the Act on the Polish Language and the Act on the National Agency for Academic Exchange (Journal of Laws of 2026, item 676) was published in the Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland. By virtue of the provisions entering into force on 9 June 2026, the levels of language proficiency indicated on certificates, which may be issued without the need to take a certification exam, will change.
A foreigner or a Polish citizen permanently residing abroad will be able to apply for a certificate of language proficiency – in the case of
to obtain a doctorate – C2:
- Completion of first-cycle studies - B2;
- completion of second-cycle or uniform master's studies – C1;
completion of schooling referred to in Art. 11a para. 4 points 2 letters b, c, da and e of the Polish Language Act - B2;
- completion of school or forms of education referred to in Article 11a(4)(2)(d) and (f) of the Polish Language Act - B1.
We hereby inform you that all applications for certificates submitted before 9 June will be processed in accordance with the existing regulations.
